I tested Matlab R2011b. The function below returns an error.
function x.x = fubar (x)
end
fubar(x)
Error: File: fubar.m Line: 1 Column: 14
"@" dotted names can be used only within a CLASS block.
Looks like the approach used to check for the existence of a mex-file is flawed.
