Compile Problem with Octave

Hi,

 

In trying to install Octave 3.4.2 on a company computer running Red Hat Linux 5, I got the following error when running make:

I have no clue what to do about this.

 

Related to this problem is that, just prior to getting to this point in running make, I got an error like “Missing message separator” for the above line beginning with DLD-FUNCTIONS. I found a fix on the Net: In the Makefile replace the five spaces at the beginning of the next line with a tab. You can see in the above where I commented out the line with five spaces and added one with a tab. This got past the message separator problem.

 

I’ve also found a number of things in the build process that might be improved, since I had to jump through some hoops (partly because of my relative inexperience in compiling GNU source code) to get things to work. If you folks are interested in my input, as a relatively naïve user of Octave, please let me know.
