Pascal,

I do execute autogen.sh before configure. configure then checks:
checking whether strmode is declared... no

then later
-DHAVE_DECL_STRMODE=0

But then I get the error listed earlier. Any other ideas?

strmode is part of the gnulib/libgnu which is supposed to be build from its own
repository. Once you have obtained the octave sources from Mercurial, you have
to execute ./autogen.sh in the main dir BEFORE using configure.

Pascal
