I am sorry to not address all your questions in detail (mostly because I don't
know the answer), but ...
(1) I *believe* that the old style matlab OOP syntax is fully supported, if that
meets your needs and
(2) I am curious if you have tried to run any code in Octave yet -- it just
might work...
