Error from configure

Dear all,
I am trying to compile octave 3.2.4 on a SGI machine. I tried with the
provided configure and autoconf (2.68) generated one, but both gave me the
same error:
configure: error: in `/home/bxu/CODES/octave-3.2.4':
configure: error: linking to Fortran libraries from C fails
See `config.log' for more details
I know very little about these compiling stuff, typically just follow the
instruction or google when error popped up. Can someone help me with this?
