No one said it was not possible to perform numerical integrations in Octave, which would be a silly thing to say. The point is that this issue, how to calculate the area of a given surface, is orthogonal to Octave. If someone wishes to integrate a surface in Octave then all that person needs to do is write the code that integrates their surface. To put it in other words, there is no magic bullet.
