It depends. First, on which platform: Win, Unix/Linux, MacOS X ?
Personally, I use Emacs with octave-mode under Linux since around 10 years.
What I like is the integration with the Version Control Management. I
switched recently from CVS to SVN, and the interface was exactly the same.
Also, the 'magic Enter': pressing the Enter key automatically indent the
previous line. If the parenthesis or block levels are not closed "the right
way", it appears imediatelly.
