Same for me, but I would like to stress one more thing. For me, it only
worked after deleting the entire octave folder, re-unzipping it, rerunning
./configure and rerunning ./make. Just continuing the compilation where it
was stuck was not working.

I had the same problem. I could compile with no problem after installing
libftgl-dev.
