For some reason people tend to get very religious about their editors,
so I don't think you'll get people to agree on which editor is the best.
My impression is that 'emacs' is one of the editors with the best
interface to Octave, though.

Personally, I use 'gedit'; not because it is a magnificent editor, but
because it is simple enough that a stupid guy like myself can figure it
out.

The best advice is probably just to try a few different editors, and see
which one suits you the best,
