But the exponent isn't a multiple of 3. That's the point of the matter.
you know the "engineering" prepositions kilo, mega, giga, milli, micro, nano, pico....

is there any way in octave to display numbers in engineering format.
e.g.
245.958e-006
1.24583e+003
37.3455e-009

i think you know what i mean.
in matlab there is the option "e" for "format"
>> format short e
this enables the engineering format display
