Then you should file a bug report with OpenSuSE and ask them to add a
dependency of Octave on SuiteSparse. See
http://www.cise.ufl.edu/research/sparse/SuiteSparse/
and Mandriva and Fedora (RPM distributions like SUSE) have RPMS already
available for this package.
