Ben, David, et al.,
Thank you for your help.  I have installed Aquaterm on my Mac Pro and this
now allows Octave to plot.

I remain confused however as to why Octave can plot on my MacBook Pro.  It
plots fine and as far as I can tell does not have Aquaterm installed.

One last thought.  Is there anyway for Octave to take advantage of
Hyperthreading and/or multiple processors?  I just ran a comparison with
Matlab, and Octave was MUCH slower and I believe the reason is that it could
only use one thread/core.

Thanks again for your help.

Respectfully,

Stuart

Any chance your MacBookPro is running OSX 10.5 (Leopard)?

If so x11 apps will launch from the terminal window. Prior to 10.5, x11 apps would only launch from an xterm window.

Ben

Unless, you set the following environmental variable in one of your bash shell's rc files:

DISPLAY=:0.0
export DISPLAY

This works fine under 10.3 and 10.4...

...and indeed is no longer needed under 10.5.
