Subject: | Using Octave from LabVIEW on Windows |

Hi,
I'm interested in knowing whether Octave can be accessed from LabVIEW running on Windows. I am not new to LabVIEW but I am new to Octave. Here's my question: can a person be in LabVIEW and come to a point where, say, a curve-fitting routine is needed and LabVIEW hands the calculation over to Octave, then Octave does its analysis and curve fit and returns a number back to LabVIEW? I've explored the Octave mailing lists and came across DCOM in this connection. Is DCOM the only way for LabVIEW and Octave to communicate if both are on the same machine?
We use LabVIEW heavily in our labs. But MatLAB is breath-takingly expensive; Octave is free. I want to explore Octave and specifically I want to know how we can turn Octave into an analysis resource running "under" LabVIEW.
Thanks.
