I'd prefer not to go back to the dark days of tmp files for plotting,
but I suppose I could consider patches.  OTOH, I see this as a
temporary problem since we are likely to transition away from using
gnuplot as a plotting backend for Octave.  It's also possible that the
gnuplot people will fix the problem.
