Correlation, significance and polynomial fitting

Hello all,

A couple of related questions....

First off, given a correlation provided by cor(x,y), is there a means of
estimating the statistical significance built in to Octave?  Could
anybody recommend a method of estimating it, if not?

Second, given a fit of some data provided by polyfit, is there a means
of estimating the correlation to this fit?
