Thanks (to you and also Brian, Mike, and Robert), but I really was
looking for mercy more than praise. :-)

The point I was trying to make was that flaws in Octave are sometimes
there because the design goals did not really include feature X (so we
weren't even aiming at the thing you want) and sometimes because of a
lack of resources (we would have been aiming at the feature you want
if there were more of us, or if we had more time, or better skills).
Or sometimes they are just bugs, and can be fixed.

To improve Octave, I hope that people will consider contributing to
the probject in some way. Recent activity in the graphics and gui
tools is encouraging, as are the improvements in sparse matrices,
a package system, packaging for Cygwin and various Linux
distributions, etc. For those who can't provide code, there is
always documentation (including editing the FAQ), improving the web
site, running the mailing lists, advocacy, and so on. For everyone
else, there's always http:/www.octave.org/funding.html!

Thanks,

jwe
