OK, I think I know what might be the problem. What is in /usr/libexec/octave/2.1.71/site/oct ? My version of octave has i686-pc-linux-gnu, but your system seems to be looking for the file in i686-redhat-linux-gnu. I can't remember the whole prior discussion. Are both the octave and octave-forge RPMs the ones you downloaded, or did you rebuild one or both of them from SRPMs?
