Sorry for joining the thread late but a newsgroup is a much better interface 
than a mailing list. Much lower network traffic, especially with products 
with a large user base.

Though most mail readers can do threading, that is unnatural to use for a mail 
client (since email exchanges tend to be short in terms of number of 
exchanges, and date takes precedence over the topic).
