Another form of data compression which typically outperforms gzip.

Both gzipped and bzipped files are available in the directory that I
pointed to in my previous message.  If you can't use the bz2 files,
then use the gz files.

Are you sure that it works as well for you as 2.1.71 would?  It seems
you are having a lot of trouble with things that would be trivially
solved by installing the 2.1.71 Cygwin package.  Then, as an added
bonus, upgrades to the next Cygwin package would also be trivial.
