This sounds great! Unfortunaly I'm not able to install Octave on the schools computers so I have to use whatever version is given to me :-(

I'd suggest installing octave in your home account, but if you idea is to reduce the amount of data in your home directory, adding a 100MB+ in your home directory for a full octave install isn't going to help....
