I think this is a question of resources.  Is it reasonable to expect
the volunteers of the Debian project to maintain a large collection of
machines to build all the possible combinations of binary packages for
ATLAS?

In any case, I think you do have an option if you want the best
performance for your hardware.  You can build ATLAS from source on
your hardware, so it is tuned specially for you.  Yes, it will take
some time, but that is likely the price you have to pay to get the
best performance.

Or, to also help others as well as yourself, perhaps the Debian
project would be interested in having some of your time?  You could
volunteer to help build ATLAS on more system types.
