It certainly looks like a problem. My guess is that it is a bug in
your ATLAS library and that it has nothing to do with the fact that
your program uses many global variables. But that is just a guess,
and there is no way to be sure that it is right given the information
you have provided.
If you think you have found a bug in Octave, please send a complete
report to the address@hidden list. If you are not sure what to
include in the report so that someone might be able to fix the

your report.
