Cygwin,
so quite old on the scale of things, with
g++ (GCC) 3.3.1 (cygming special) or
g++ (GCC) 4.0.0 20050129 (experimental)
gives
$ ./a
toit: throwing exception
toit: caught exception
doit: throwing exception
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
However, g++ (GCC) 3.2 20020927 (prerelease) works correctly.
Have you posted a gcc PR? It could easily be a gcc problem; there are many
#ifdef _CYGWIN_ s therein.......
