John, Dmitri,

I've been trying to use gfortran for several months, mostly with problems.
Of three codes that I tried, only one compiled successfully. My suggestion
would be to file a bug report and track it. The bug (previously reported as
17917) that killed the primary code that I use has been there, mostly
dormant ("NEW"), since October. gfortran is a very good idea, but it's not
quite there yet. I'm not enough of a computer scientist to help them. I'm
wary to install the latest gfortran version on my Mac because it may break
the very dependable g77-3.4.2 compiler that I use almost every day.
