Doesn't it just!
another source of good suggestions is the report "MATLAB array
manipulation tips and tricks" by Peter J. Acklam. The most
recent version can be found at,

This is referred to from the Mathworks site. Seems to me that it would do no harm to refer to this and the Matlab technical note from the Wiki - it does underline how compatible it is.
