Thanks to all who replied to my posting yesterday. I
really appreciate the excellent suggestions and
pointers that I received.

The problem that I was experiencing with Octave
generating a segment fault when running a FFT turned
out to be related to the defect in shrinking a data
structure that David Bateman and Michael Creel pointed
out. Explicitly resizing my arrays to an appropriate
size before running the FFT eliminates the seg fault,
and provides an easy workaround.

Thanks again!

 Bob
