It appears that the problem was due to the X11 and stdin/out streams
intermingled as discussed in:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=3701250&forum_id=6027
and
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=3721508&forum_id=6027
(Subject: pasting code into gnuplot)
It appears that the problem is fixed (or at least alleviated) in the
recent CVS snapshot of gnuplot. Hopefully, gnuplot team will
make an "official" tarball soon (I am pretty much give up
waiting for 4.0 version :)
Sincerely,
Dmitri.
