The reason we have so many people having this issue is simple.
If you go to www.octave.org/download.html, there is the
following statement:
An easy-to-install Windows binary is available from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/matlinks.
If you go to sourceforge.net/project/matlinks, there is
a link "GNU Octave for windows" (Sept 10, 2002), which contains
version 2.1.35 and causes all these problems.
The simple solution is the following:
CHANGE THE OCTAVE.ORG WEB PAGE TO POINT TO
http://sourceforge.net/projects/octave
FOR WINDOWS BINARY DOWNLOADS !!!!
This will save lots of problems posted to this mailing list,
and will give a much better first impression to new users.
