 an i386/RedHat9.0. The compilation of octave were fluent.

 make check gave:

 FAIL: octave.test/evalcatch/evalcatch9.m
 FAIL: octave.test/evalcatch/evalcatch10.m
 FAIL: octave.test/try/try9.m
 FAIL: octave.test/try/try10.m
 === octave Summary ===

 # of expected passes 1532
 # of unexpected failures 4

 make[2]: *** [check] Error 1
 make[2]: Leaving directory `/u/ted/octave2.1.50/test'
 make[1]: *** [check] Error 2
 make[1]: Leaving directory `/u/ted/octave2.1.50'
 make: *** [check] Error 2

 I don't know how fatal are the above failure but I was able to run
 octave.
These are known problems that may not be fixed for a while. Since
this seems to alarm people and has been reported many times, I've
changed the test suite to report them as "expected failures".
