help octave forge

Dear all,

I'm new to Linux and Octave and have been trying to install the octave-forge 
package. During make it gives a large number of various errors and it 
aborts. As far as I know I have followed the instructions correctly. If 
anyone would like to help me out in this one I'd be very grateful.
