Seems like you used fink to install octave, was it a binary or compile from source install?

Could you enable crash logs and provide the output? (Open /Applications/Utilities/Console and select Enable crash reporting in the preferences, then do "roots([1 2 3])" in octave.)

If it is enabled already, then you'll have the log in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/octave.crash.log, the entry at the very bottom of the file.

FWIW, I have no problem here (G4MP, 10.2.4)

I recently installed octave 2.1.40 (and octave-forge) on my G3 computer (macosx). Octave crashes when I used "roots" function (I did not have this problem with 2.1.35-10).
