As myself, many of the octave-users run it within a gnu/linux system. 
I tried several VRML players (freewrl, openvrml-lookat, vrwave), but 
could not succeed playing the demo files shown at the webpage you 
pointed to. 

Do you know any VRML-Player for GNU/Linux wich is able to play the 
files?
