My scripts starts with
%!/bin/bash
so I would expect that the normal environment is taken.

Yes, its alway the bash.
My problem is that I cannot understand how mpost/latex vs
the system()-cmd can start without the normal environment
(which is the default of the teTeX distri).
Maybe I should ask a teTeX list...
