Hello,
I apologize for asking the following, which at this point looks like
it is not really a problem with octave.
r.e. installing octave-2.1.33 on my osf 5.0 machine, I followed Pascal
Denis's
suggestion and installed g77 as well as gcc,g++ (version 2..95.3). No
change as
to the 'multiply defined' problems mentioned earlier:
> /usr/bin/ld:
> /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/alphaev6-dec-osf5.0/2.95.3/libgcc.a(_eh.o):
>_GLOBAL_$F$__default_terminate: multiply defined
Then I tried downgrading to gcc-2.95.2. Now things get a little farther,
but finally fail with:
ar rc liboctinterp.a BaseSLList.o Cell.o ... <many more object files>
ar: liboctinterp.a: Memory exhausted
make[2]: *** [liboctinterp.a] 1
It seems odd, because this machine has 4G memory (and the process limit
is set to this maximum). I thought I had seen something similar reported
to this list earlier, but was unable to find anything after scanning the
archive. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
