right, sorted that -- I'll use the following:
%==========================
%    _ _ _ _ _ i _ _ _ _ _
%   |  _k_  _ _      _ _  |
%  j  |_ _||_ _|    |_ _| |
%   |_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _|
%
%==========================

next up:
has anyone got a routine to
calc arclengths, eg
        theArcLength = arclength(X,Y,Z)
        or
        theArcLength = arclength(X,Y)
if not, anyone interested if I make one?

David
