Scott,
check the ld that your are using.
If you use /usr/ccs/bin/ld it should be OK.
Further, I compiled 2.0.16 on solaris 7 ans 2.5.1 with gcc2.95.2. On 2.5.1 you
could have some problem
with NLS, I had that problem, in case use --disable-nls at the configure
command line
