The plplot_octave package is a plugin replacement for gnuplot on Octave.
There is even a Debian package. It has ginput() and gtext(), but not
rlocfind() (I never heard). There are of course some functions that behave
differently on gnuplot/Octave and plplot_octave, one of them being the
behaviour of oneplot()--while gnuplot applies the function at the next
plot, plplot_octave does it imediatly, clearing the current plot. This has
implications on the Control Toolbox demos, but otherwise it runs OK. You
can get it at <http://merlin.inescn.pt/~qual/plplot_octave>, but you have
to compile plplot also.

There is a patch to gnuplot that enable ginput() to work. Look at the mail
archives.
