pbs with prompt

Hi all !

Here the pb I have with octave 2.0.13, under Linux 2.0.36:

My home dir is /mnt/hanoi/disk1/mo/thesards/petit, which is linked to
/home/mo/thesards/petit (NFS mounted).

Under octave, with

        PS1 = "address@hidden:\\w/{\\#}/> ",

I have the prompt

        address@hidden:/mnt/hanoi/disk1/mo/thesards/petit/{1}/> blablabla

which is very long (then when I go to my subdirs :-(...)

How can I setup the prompt to obtain, as under my shell :

        address@hidden:~/{1}/> bliblibli

when I'm at home ??
