In addition to the ftp search site http://ftpsearch.ntnu.no/ftpsearch
listed at http://www.che.wisc.edu/octave, I wanted to mention two
sites that I have had luck with;

http://www.linuxberg.com/
I have RedHat Linux running kernel 2.0.35, I installed an RPM'd version
of Octave and find that it works great.
