Image Cubes

Is there a script out there for dealing with image cubes (as BIP, BIL or
BSQ)?  I would like to generate eigenvalues for the Z dimension. 
I would also like to do things like add back absorbances to the spectrum
represented by the Z dimension.  While it might be slower, I would
prefer to address one XY location at a time to reduce overhead and swap,
these are pretty big files.
