DL Fortran code - cannot resolve symbol c_abs or c_sqrt |

I fear this to be a previously asked question; but I can't find an
answer...
I'm attempting to make a dynamically loadable Airy function for complex
arguments. I get some fortran code from NETLIB, copy a bit of C++ to do
the wrapping and compile with the command:
mkoctfile airy.cc cairy.f
When I try to execute it I get
octave> airy(-1+i)
octave: can't resolve symbol 'c_sqrt'
Is there an improved rune with which to compile the code?
Should a fortran library be mentioned somewhere? Or does it come
automatically with Octave?
I'd be grateful for any hints.
John Smith
My system is thus:
