Please correct me if I am wrong, but my impression of both pauldnadlesley.org 
article and the manual section, is that these are merely examples, not meant at 
all to actually work in practice.  I, for example, had to do a lot of work, 
starting from reading those articles, to implement autodeps working flawlessly.
