Installing gnu make

Hi,

I failed in installation of gnu make-3.79.1 for many times.
When I type ./configure, I got the message: 
"Configuring MAKE for DJGPP
'update' is not recognized as an internal or external
command, operable program or batch file.
The Vdm Redirector is already loaded
No Make program found--use DOSBUILD.BAT to build Make."
I tried dosbuild.bat and got a lot of messages. Most are
about gcc -I. -c ... "'gcc' is not recognized as an internal
or external command, operable program or batch file."
My system is Windows xp, VC++ 6.0 and mks tool kit were
installed. nmake and make work fine, but I need gnumake
badly. 

Any help would be appreciated greatly.
