Interesting, I didn't even know about this page so far...

Indeed it could provide some hints. But really, the idea is that you
look through the code, and find your own work -- whenever you see
something you think could be done better, suggest a change.

If you don't see things to improve, that probably means your programming
skills are not yet sufficient for this task... It doesn't require
previous system programming experience, but it does require experience
with serious C programming.

You can work on the Mach code under GNU/Linux, and if you really want
to, you can even compile gnumach from there -- but you definitely need
to run a Hurd system to test whether it still works with your
modifications...
