Hi,
I'm interested in experimenting with GNU/Hurd and am now trying to
install it as second system on my PC. I followed the instructions for
Debian GNU/Hurd:
http://www.debian.org/ports/hurd/hurd-install
(using a downloaded fresh .tgz file not a CD)
As native system, I'm running i686-gnu-linux and GRUB legacy (0.97) as
bootloader.
When I try to boot mach / the Hurd as described, I get some output first
but after about 10 seconds the machine automatically reboots (thus it
seems as if the bootstrap panic'ed or something like that); the screen
prints something about ext2fs.static, but it goes away immediatelly so I
unfortunatelly can't tell what the message is exactly about...
The documentation suggests that a common problem is shared IRQs, I
checked /proc/interrupts on my GNU/Linux system:
CPU0
0: 313630 IO-APIC-edge timer
1: 10 IO-APIC-edge i8042
11: 2354 IO-APIC-fasteoi acpi
12: 123 IO-APIC-edge i8042
14: 42852 IO-APIC-edge ide0
15: 33 IO-APIC-edge ide1
17: 0 IO-APIC-fasteoi ndiswrapper
18: 0 IO-APIC-fasteoi SiS SI7012
19: 12044 IO-APIC-fasteoi eth0
20: 3509 IO-APIC-fasteoi ohci_hcd:usb2
21: 12586 IO-APIC-fasteoi ohci_hcd:usb3
23: 3 IO-APIC-fasteoi ehci_hcd:usb1
NMI: 0 Non-maskable interrupts
LOC: 30 Local timer interrupts
RES: 0 Rescheduling interrupts
CAL: 0 function call interrupts
TLB: 0 TLB shootdowns
TRM: 0 Thermal event interrupts
SPU: 0 Spurious interrupts
ERR: 0
MIS: 0
If I interpret this correctly, the first columns are the IRQs and none
is shared? Or am I missing something?
What's the problem with this, any suggestions how I could get the Hurd
booting?
Thank you very much,
Daniel
