Hello. I got the Hurd to boot on an unused partition on my
old system. Unfortunately there is no working CDROM on the
machine, so I used the K16 tarball. When I ran the
native-install script the second time, dpkg complained that
there was no package ``netbase'' available. Later when I
tried to start pfinet as per the instructions on debian.org,
I was told that there was no eth0 device.

I have never really gotten Unix device stuff, so I naively
tried MAKEDEV eth0, but that resulted in being told that
MAKEDEV didn't know how to make that device.

So, is all this likely to mean that there is no support for
my NIC? -- or is there a way to get the required packages to
the right place through the back door by booting to Linux
and copying them over to that partition?

Thanks for any help.
