The advantage of this move is that it recognises what has been true for
a while. Noone cares enough to keep a tarball up to date. The last
tarball update was 11 months ago, and so buggy you couldn't use it to
install without assisstance.
The tarball was never inteded as a 'real installer'. Philip's CDs fill
that role. They are still around and are in need of testers, fixers,
and purchasers *g*.
When the FSF gets around to fixing their hardware, I might be inclined
to setup automated tarball builds. Crosshurd is, for the most part,
already setup to do this. Filling a wishlist bug might encourage me to
finish adding this feature to crosshurd.

As I mentioned in the emails, non-Debian users should generally just use
the install CDs. Some other folks have made tarballs of crosshurd that
apparently work. I have no experience with them, though.
