unix module is not needed by GNU Mach.

It's definately not because of unix module.

It seems that your GNU Mach 2.x doesn't recognize the hard disk.  Did 
you include appropriate ide/scsi driver as written in 
http://hurd.gnufans.org/bin/view/Mach/BuildingOskitMach ?  (There you 
can find modules-light.x86.pc file that lists the minimal set of modules 
needed to compile GNU Mach 2.)

Although it's unofficial development of OSKit, it's the better option.
