I'd say partition it with < 1 GB.
So make two 1 GB partitions if you need more space.
I am running GNU/HURD with 900 MB. So far so good.
But we'll see if I am starting to compile stuff.
[Unfortunately, I couldn't mount my Linux partition since it's
in a 4GB partition. :( ]
