Thanks for your interest. This has been implemented already in the source repository. You can trigger the numerical Jacobian by setting the 'df' function pointer to NULL.

Dear GSL,

I have been using your library for a while. I had issues with numerically
fitting a function for Levenberg-Marquadt algorithm. I recently found that
by implementing 'Jacobian' calculation numerically with GSL LVM algorithm,
helped me solve my problem. I would like to contribute to GSL in this

As an example i have attached some sample fit for an exponential, parabolic
and squareroot functions whose Jacobian are solved numerically during LVM

Compilation :
gcc -o LVM_primer LVM_primer.c -lm -lgsl -lgslcblas

'LVM_primer' calls 'LVM_algorithm_modified.c'
'Data' is the data file with x,y
'Limit' is the initial guess for the parameters to fit

Best regards,
